Proof of Participation
Beyond simple verification
Proof of Participation is a simple way to describe the set of tools we use to make organized social collaboration possible. Checking a ticket, recording a runner crossing the finish line, taking roll call. They’re all ways to acknowledge the participant.
Today, technology makes it easier than ever to confirm attendance (“being there”). But that’s different from engaged participation in an activity, event, or project. Ralla represents new paradigm: the enhancement of proof of participation to describe any goal or challenge and confirm whether it is achieved.
Ralla allows creators to define goals using natural language descriptions, reference images, or a combination of both to capture their intent. They create and meaningfully define substantive outcomes.
Participants then submit text and/or photos which are evaluated against the creators original requirements. Instead of relying on checklists, timestamps, or manual verification, the system interprets whether the essence of the creator’s challenge was met. This allows flexible, context-aware confirmation of real-world actions, creative tasks, or experiential goals at scale.
Building Tools
The tools Ralla provides are built on a set of interpretation “primitives” that, together with details from the phone, can be used to capture a wide variety of verifiable outcomes.
- Matching against a text description
- Matching against a target image
- Matching against brand content
- Comparing and synthesizing text descriptions
- Before/after image comparisons
- Chained image comparisons over multiple steps
- Emulating a pose, action, or item placement
- Sentiment
- Identity
These tools are building blocks. The power of the platform is the ability to link these elements together to create multi-step challenges and to control whether they’re completed sequentially or as part of an open-ended experience.
The Opportunity
Ralla replaces the rigid constraints of check-ins and QR codes with the creative freedom to create a richer form of participation and engagement. The applications for participant verification are broad:
- Ambassador programs
- Event activations
- On-site contest verification
- Skill-based competition verification
- Fan access and VIP qualification
- Audience participation events
- Conference gamification
In each case above, Ralla does the work of confirming completion of participation tasks, filters participants based on their progress, and provides systems to reward engagement and brand loyalty. Drop us an email if you’re interested in learning more!
Behind the Scenes: Visual Language Models
Visual Language Models (VLM) are a specialized form of LLMs optimized for fast interpretation of images. In combination with the telemetry provided by mobile devices, VLMs are becoming an important tool to help verify real world status and progress. Applications derived from VLMs are used increasingly to verify product delivery, in construction, and in the insurance industry. At Ralla, we’re using VLMs to unlock the ability for participants to work independently and complete tasks using the interpretation of captured images to provide a richer, more informative forms of verification.
